Madcap Comedy & Improv began in Kansas City before founder Cameron Carlson returned home to Wyoming to captain his family’s farm. Somewhere between carrot fields and open skies, he had a thought: “I bet there are some funny people in Wyoming.” Turns out, he was right.

Madcap is a troupe of performers from all walks of life, united by a shared love of comedy and creativity. Whether on stage or in the audience, we believe laughter is better when it’s shared.

Today, Madcap brings live improv comedy to the Cowboy State and beyond. We perform pretty much anywhere we can get a laugh.

Traveling throughout the Big Horn Basin and even crossing state lines to visit our neighbors in Montana, this merry band of thespians will meet you where you’re at. From community events and private parties to wherever else someone is willing to give us a stage, we’re always looking for an excuse to make people laugh.

Improv (short for improvisation) is comedy without a script.

Every scene, character, and story is created live on stage using nothing more than audience suggestions, quick thinking, and teamwork. No two performances are ever the same.

At the heart of improv is a simple idea: “Yes, and…”

It’s the practice of accepting what your scene partner gives you and adding something new. Instead of trying to control the story, you trust it, build it together, and discover where it leads. Unexpected moments—and even mistakes—become opportunities.

The result is comedy that’s spontaneous, unpredictable, and completely unique to that audience.

Every great improv scene begins as something wildly unlikely to succeed. That’s exactly why it’s so much fun to watch.

Beyond performing, Madcap is passionate about helping others discover the joy of comedy. We regularly offer classes and workshops in improvisation, stand-up, and sketch writing, welcoming everyone from curious beginners to seasoned performers.
